Job summary

Akumin is seeking a PRN Patient Coordinator at our Kissimmee facilities to ensure a positive patient experience in a fast-paced outpatient radiology/oncology setting.

You will greet patients, register them in systems, verify insurance, collect payments, and provide pre/post-procedure guidance while upholding HIPAA standards. This role requires a high school diploma and CPR, with travel to multiple sites as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire for Mobile Radiology and Oncology.
• CPR Certification is a plus for Fixed Radiology.
• Valid state driver's license required.
• Ability to work at several locations required.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
• Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
• The COVID-19 vaccination is/may be a condition of employment.
• All candidates who accept an offer for employment will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment background check and drug screen as a condition of employment.
• Six months customer service or related experience and/or training (preferred).
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus (preferred).
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Greets and assists patients, customers and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Will perform patient registration in various systems.
• Answers all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• May collect monies for time-of-service patient responsibility.
• May be responsible for verifying insurance coverage and obtain prior authorization.
• Patient Assistance: May perform preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures, which may include medical history.
• May transport patient to/from the exam room.
• May assist in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
• May provide the patient with preliminary and post-procedure instructions.
• Work Area & Supply Preparation: In the mobile setting, may assist in preparing the unit for transport.
• Will maintain a clean and organized work area.
• May order supplies and ensure the work area is properly stocked.
• Documentation: Will ensure accuracy of patient records.
• May schedule patient appointments and obtain insurance verification and/or authorization.
• May prepare medical records for physicians, patients and customers.
• Ensures accurate documentation of patient visits in various electronic systems and on written documents.
• May assist the clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to the patient, physician, or contracted customer.
• Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.
