Job summary

Heritage Valley Health System in Sewickley, PA is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide direct patient care in the Observation Unit under the direction of a Professional Nurse. This full-time night position includes 12- and 8-hour shifts, with weekends and holidays as required. You will assist with daily living activities, monitor vitals, operate basic equipment, and respond to call lights.

High school diploma required; CNA preferred. Clearances must be completed within 90 days of start.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care appropriate to age, culture, and developmental needs under the direction of the Professional Nurse.
• Assist with activities of daily living (dressing, bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulation).
• Monitor vital signs, assist with bed/chair mobility, and respond to call lights.
• Transcribe orders when indicated.

Department: Observation Unit
Work Hours: Full-Time. Nights, 12 and 8 hour shifts with weekends and holidays as required

Basic Function: Provides direct patient care appropriate to age, culture, and developmental needs under the direction of the Professional Nurse. Works closely with patients to provide physical assistance with daily living tasks, such as dressing, bathing, feeding, toileting, vital signs, catheter care, answering call lights, assisting with ambulation, turning, and ensuring patient safety. Technical skills may include obtaining 12 lead EKG, setting up respiratory equipment, glucometer monitoring, bladder catheterization and transcribing orders, when indicated.

Qualifications:

Required: High school graduate or equivalent. Excellent bedside manner and customer service & computer skills. Successful completion of applicable clearances as outlined in Human Resources policy HR-106 within 90 days of commencing employment.

Preferred:

Successful completion of a nursing assistant program (with proof of completion). Nursing student after successful completion of their first quarter/semester of nursing school. Previous nursing assistant experience, CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). BCLS certification.
