Job summary

Heritage Valley Health System in Allegheny County is seeking a nursing assistant to join the Orthopedics department. You will provide direct patient care under a nurse's direction and support daily living activities with a focus on safety and comfort.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of applicable clearances within 90 days of starting.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care appropriate to age, culture and developmental needs under direction of the Professional Nurse.
• Assist with activities of daily living and patient safety, including dressing, bathing and feeding.
• Take vital signs, catheter care, turning and ambulation assistance; respond to call lights.
• Set up and operate routine equipment and transcribe orders as indicated.

Full‑Time Day/Evening, 8 & 12 hour shifts, every other weekend, holidays as required.

Job Overview

Provides direct patient care appropriate to age, culture, and developmental needs under the direction of the Professional Nurse. Works closely with patients to provide physical assistance with daily living tasks, such as dressing, bathing, feeding, toileting, vital signs, catheter care, answering call lights, assisting with ambulation, turning, and ensuring patient safety. Technical skills may include obtaining 12‑lead EKG, setting up respiratory equipment, glucometer monitoring, bladder catheterization and transcribing orders, when indicated.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent. Excellent bedside manner and customer service & computer skills.
• Successful completion of applicable clearances as outlined in Human Resources policy HR-106 within 90 days of commencing employment.

Preferred

• Successful completion of a nursing assistant program (with proof of completion)
• Nursing student after successful completion of their first quarter/semester of nursing school
• Previous nursing assistant experience, CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant)
• BCLS
