Description:

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) is responsible for providing direct patient care tasks as assigned and under the supervision of professional nursing personnel. They also provide indirect care to support unit functions, such as maintaining equipment, transporting patients, and stocking supplies.

Responsibilities include:

1. Completing admissions according to policy (room setup, vital signs, orientation, etc.)
2. Prioritizing and organizing work assignments, adjusting priorities based on changing situations in collaboration with licensed nursing staff
3. Completing work within the assigned time frame
4. Monitoring patient condition and potential risk factors
5. Recognizing and addressing patient-specific needs, including pain management and supportive care
6. Delivering patient care within the scope of a nursing assistant and adhering to hospital policies and state regulations
7. Communicating effectively with team members and utilizing information systems like Meditech
8. Reporting changes in patient condition and ensuring proper hand-offs during shifts
9. Assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and ensuring safety protocols such as fall risk precautions
10. Supporting educational experiences for nursing students and new employees, and functioning as a preceptor when needed
11. Running errands and supporting hospital operations as needed
