The role emphasizes strong communication, attention to detail, and handling confidential information while assisting patients with billing questions and coordinating with insurers in a fast-paced Fiscal Services environment.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in business, accounting, healthcare administration, or related field preferred.
Healthcare billing, patient financial services, medical office experience, insurance, or customer service preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance plans (Medicare/Medicaid and commercial), and HIPAA guidelines preferred.
Strong computer skills and ability to learn hospital billing software.
Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail with ability to prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Assist patients with billing inquiries, payment arrangements, and account questions in a professional and courteous manner.
Process patient payments and maintain accurate financial records.
Review and update patient demographic and insurance information.
Verify insurance coverage and assist with insurance-related account issues.
Work with insurance companies regarding claim status, denials, and payment discrepancies.
Process correspondence related to patient accounts, including statements and financial assistance documentation.
Maintain accurate documentation within the hospital's billing system.
Assist with payment posting, account reconciliation, and other fiscal support duties.
Respond to patient and third-party inquiries by phone, email, and in person.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, hospital policies, and applicable regulations.
Collaborate with other hospital departments to resolve patient account concerns.
Perform general clerical and administrative duties to support the Fiscal Services Department.
