Job summary

Access Community Health Network in Chicago is hiring a Patient Benefit Specialist to guide patients through understanding insurance coverage, financial responsibility, and payment options, helping maximize reimbursement and ensure access to care.

You will screen for eligibility for healthcare programs, assist with enrollment, update benefits in the EHR, and stay current on Medicare, Medicaid, Marketplace plans, and sliding fee scales.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of two years of customer service experience.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Marketplace insurance, and HMO regulations is preferred.
• Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR), especially EPIC, is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to communicate clearly with diverse patients and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Explain benefit programs and patient responsibilities; obtain forms and signatures.
• Screen patients for healthcare benefits, insurance coverage, and eligibility for grants or assistance.
• Verify patients' existing coverage to identify benefits and explain insurance options.
• Assist with program enrollment based on financial assessments and options.
• Enter and update benefit-coverage information in the EHR and scan documents with 100% accuracy.
• Maintain knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Marketplace, HMO regulations.
• Assist with Medicaid applications and annual redetermination.
• Coordinate with providers and care team to advocate for patients.
• Support patients navigating revenue cycle and provide warm hand-offs when needed.
• Uphold patient confidentiality and HIPAA standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
