Job summary

Walgreens is seeking a Patient Access Specialist in the United States to oversee the patient’s financial journey, including benefits investigation, prior authorizations, and enrollment in financial assistance programs.

You will communicate with patients, prescribers, and payors to clarify coverage, resolve payor rejections, and ensure timely processing while maintaining HIPAA compliance and patient-centered service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of healthcare, specialty pharmacy, PBM or call center experience.
• Experience delivering customer service to internal and external customers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to handle confidential information.
• Basic PC skills and familiarity with Windows and Office software.

Responsibilities

• Confirm patient coverage for pharmacy and medical benefits, including eligibility, co-pays, deductibles, secondary insurance and network status.
• Initiate, complete, and track prior authorizations, medical tier exceptions, and appeals; coordinate with providers and payors.
• Submit accurate claims for reimbursement; resolve non-clinical payor rejections and benefit discrepancies.
• Collect and submit documentation for copay cards, patient assistance, and other programs; monitor renewals.
• Act as liaison among patients, providers, and payors to clarify benefits and next steps.
• Maintain accurate records of interactions and outcomes; escalate complex cases as needed.
• Escalate concerns to management or sponsors; ensure HIPAA compliance.
• Crosstrain and support other key functions; participate in onboarding and training.
