Job summary

Puyallup Tribal Health Authority is seeking a Patient Benefits Coordinator to serve our community in Tacoma, WA. This full-time, non-exempt role connects patients with health coverage programs and community resources, educating and advocating for access to benefits.

You’ll work with SSA, DSHS, and other agencies, assist with applications for Medicare, SSI, SSD, and Apple Health, and document patient information in the EHR, while staying current on Medicare and ACA changes.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or ≥2 years in healthcare with insurance exposure.
• 2+ years of customer service in healthcare.
• Ability to obtain WA Tribal Assister Certification within 1 month.
• Experience with Medicare and Medicaid programs preferred.
• Ability to explain complex healthcare coverage clearly.
• Native American Preference applies.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with applications for SSI, SSD, Medicare, Medicaid/Apple Health and related resources.
• Educate patients on health coverage options, rights, and responsibilities.
• Coordinate with SSA, DSHS and other agencies.
• Conduct patient interviews in clinical, hospital, or community settings.
• Support patients with appeals, grievances, and complex benefit cases.
• Assist access to pharmacy discount programs for high-cost meds.
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records.
• Stay updated on Medicare, Medicaid, ACA, and tribal programs.
