Job summary

Mercy Hospital in New York is seeking a Patient Services Assistant to support admissions, screenings and charting. You will greet patients, verify IDs, assist with vital signs, and prepare rooms for new admissions while coordinating with nursing and support staff.

A high school diploma is required; Bachelor's degree is preferred and 350-hour CASAC training or equivalent experience is advantageous. Valid NYS driver’s license and EMR/Outlook proficiency are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Enrollment or completion of 350-hour CASAC training and/or experience preferred.
• Ability to write legibly and navigate EMR, Outlook and Windows apps.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls and screen admissions; route to staff as needed.
• Complete unit rounds on shift and report variances to supervisor.
• Monitor population and document observations in EMR.
• Greet new admissions, verify IDs and copy/scan insurance cards.
• Conduct contraband screening of new admissions as required.
• Perform supervised drug screening tests on same-gender individuals.
• Ensure rooms are admitted-ready and sanitized post-discharge.
• Maintain linen supply and hygiene per infection control guidelines.
• Assist with meal preparation and serving per schedule; procure supplies.
• Provide safe transportation to other facilities as needed.
• Ensure facility vehicles are ready; log mileage and report issues.
• Attend staff meetings and take on related duties as needed.
