Job summary

Johnson County Hospital is seeking an Admissions Clerk to streamline patient intake at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh, NE. The role handles preregistration for admissions and outpatient tests, collects patient information, and orients patients to hospital policies and procedures.

The incumbent will interview patients, verify insurance, process advance directives, and guide patients on billing, rights, and HIPAA.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; HIM or medical assisting experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn new programs.
• Experience with EHR software and patient communications.
• Strong telephone and customer service abilities.
• Ability to multi-task in a busy office and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Pre-register patients for admissions and outpatient procedures; verify insurance.
• Interview patients or representatives for required information.
• Handle advance directives and communicate with Nursing Services when no directive is available.
• Provide billing info, patient rights, HIPAA guidance; distribute literature.
• Refer patients for financial consultations to arrange payments.
• Assist Receptionist during breaks and provide daily phone coverage.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality of PHI.
• Coordinate with other departments and adapt in stressful situations.
