Job Description

The UMKC School of Dentistry is seeking a patient-focused Patient Account Representative / Receptionist (UM Job Title: Office Support Assistant IV) who is team-oriented and known for their outstanding customer service, attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to take initiative. Daily work includes researching patient problems, and accurately processing a high volume of transactions for a diverse customer base, therefore problem-solving, flexibility, and multitasking skills are important. The ideal candidate must be able to perform job tasks in a busy environment with frequent interruptions, while meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work. Successful applicants must be helpful and patient, with the ability to problem solve in fast-paced situations, and provide outstanding customer service to patients, faculty, staff, and students. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Greet patients and inquire of their needs.
• Verify insurance coverage; copy insurance cards, walk patient through appropriate forms to be signed.
• Answer patient questions regarding billing statements and insurance coverage.
• Answer patient phone calls. Transfer calls to others in the Department or the School.
• Compute discounts and post fee waivers on Patients' charts if appropriate.
• Take information for Patients' credit cards over the phone, always following protocol.
• Reverse payments by instructions of the Cashiers and post notes to Patients Charts.
• Telephone, email, write, or fax Insurance Companies with unpaid Insurance Claims to obtain Settlement of Claims.
• Post return Statements to Patient Charts and unlock Patient Charts when allowable.
• Sort mail and write Patient Chart Numbers onto Checks for the Cashiers to post, daily.
• Route Checks not belonging to the General Clinic to their respective destinations.
• Other duties as assigned.
  

Shift

This position will work on-site supporting the Dental Clinic at the UMKC School of Dentistry, Shift will be 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous patient accounts, and/or health care billing experience
• Previous cashiering experience / ability to count correct change

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range is up to $18.25 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
