Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a Specialist Patient Access to serve as the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a seamless and empathetic entry into our healthcare system. You will manage appointments, verify insurance, register demographics, and provide clear financial counseling to patients.

You will communicate with patients and clinical teams, resolve access issues, maintain data integrity, and improve patient access workflows while upholding regulatory and organizational policies.

Qualifications

• Requires strong customer service experience in a healthcare setting.
• Accurate data entry and financial counseling skills are essential.
• Excellent communication with patients and clinical teams is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs registration duties and scheduling in the EMR; pre-registration completed at least 5 days before service date when possible.
• Verifies insurance eligibility/benefits and copays; directs uninsured patients to financial counselors.
• Obtains accurate patient demographics during registration and scheduling.
• Obtains authorization/pre-certification; follows up on missing authorizations within 48 hours prior to service.
• Identifies outstanding balances and arranges payment plans; explains billing and financial assistance programs.
• Answers phones and assists callers; documents interactions in the database; researches complex issues.
