Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Patient Access Representative III for Per Diem roles in La Jolla. You will pre-register, pre-admit, and admit patients by phone or in person, collecting demographics, reviewing benefits, and obtaining authorizations while coordinating with departments for accurate reimbursement.

The role requires strong customer service, knowledge of third-party payers, and excellent communication. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; 20% appointment, days with variable hours.

Qualifications

• A minimum of three (3) years of registration or medical front office experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Thorough Knowledge of third-party payers. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
• Must possess excellent customer service skills.
• Highly proficient with MS Office applications (Excel, Word).
• Possess strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly both verbally and in writing to audiences at all levels.
• Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high quality standards, innovation, and accountability.
• Ability to interact effectively with the public, including patients, visitors, clinical and support staff.

Responsibilities

• Pre-registers, pre-admits, and admits patients by telephone and/or in person.
• Collects accurate demographic information and interprets insurance benefits.
• Obtains prior authorizations and patient estimates.
• Handles cash collections and interactions with public assistance programs.
• Coordinates with hospital departments to ensure timely reimbursement and discharge planning.
