Job summary

Emerus Holdings, Inc. in Schertz, TX is seeking a Patient Registration / Admissions Specialist to act as a liaison between patients, payers and the revenue cycle team.

You will verify demographic information, determine insurance coverage and authorization needs, and collect out-of-pocket payments to maximize hospital reimbursement. Responsibilities include EMTALA/HIPAA compliance, accurate data entry, coordinating patient transfers, and maintaining patient records.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting required; 2 years preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• MS Office knowledge (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
• Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all other hospital and government regulations applicable to the Admissions settings and in handling of Medical Records
• Provide excellent customer service by effectively meeting customer needs and building quality relationships
• Answer telephone professionally, record messages and communicate to appropriate medical staff
• Provide and obtain signatures on required forms and consents
• Obtain, verify, and enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing
• Verify insurance benefits for all plans associated with patient and ensure correct payor and plan entered
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by individual insurance plans where applicable
• Maximize collection efficiency by pursuing collections at the time of service
• Scan registration and clinical documentation into the system and maintain medical records
• Assist with coordinating transfer of patients to other hospitals when necessary
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals
• Maintain cash drawer according to policies
• Maintain log of patients, payments, transfers and admissions
• Maintain visitor/vendor log
• Maintain a clean work environment at front desk, waiting room and related areas
• Receive deliveries and forward to appropriate departments
• Notify contact of equipment or maintenance needs
• Attend staff meetings and other mandatory meetings
• Assist medical staff as needed
• Perform additional duties as assigned
