Job summary

Emerus is seeking a part-time Admissions/Patient Registration associate for our Schertz location. The role supports patient tracking, billing and collecting out-of-pocket responsibility to maximize hospital reimbursement.

Shift is Day Shift (7a-7p) on weekends (Saturday & Sunday), with duties centered at the front desk and medical records intake. Responsibilities include verifying demographics and insurance, obtaining authorizations where needed, maintaining compliant records, and coordinating

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, required.
• 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting, required; 2 years preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors, required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology
• Excellent customer service
• Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Outlook), strongly preferred.
• Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations applicable to Admissions and Medical Records handling.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships.
• Answer telephone professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents.
• Enter complete and accurate demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor/plan in patient accounting system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Pursue collections at the time of service to maximize reimbursement.
• Scan registrations and clinical documents into the system.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs of payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
