Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC seeks a Patient Access Associate I to deliver exceptional patient registration, insurance verification, and front-desk support in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires strong customer service, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate multiple systems (HDX Eligibility, Soarian, Siemens EDM, and ADT). Training on HIPAA and compliance is provided, with rotating weekends. Join a team committed to patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree preferred.
• Three years of experience in patient access/registration, billing, cash collections, insurance, pre-certifications, or related healthcare role.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with computers and registration, scheduling, and electronic documentation systems.
• Ability to work rotating weekends and holidays as needed.
• Typing test required by HR.

Responsibilities

• Provides exceptional customer service to patients, families, clinicians, and staff.
• Registers patients and verifies demographic, financial, and insurance information.
• Contacts insurance carriers to determine coverage and eligibility.
• Verifies insurance information using eligibility systems (HDX Eligibility).
• Complies with Medicare MSP/ABN requirements and other regulatory guidelines.
• Collects copayments, deductibles, and other payments.
• Uses Siemens EDM and Soarian Scheduling to manage documents and appointments.
• Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA and hospital policies.
• Cross-trains across patient registration and access areas as needed.
