Job summary

Howard University Hospital seeks a Patient Access Associate I to deliver top-tier patient registration and service in a busy hospital setting. You will verify demographics, insurance details, and eligibility while coordinating with Financial Counselors and care teams.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, 3 years of experience in patient access, and familiarity with EMR and scheduling systems. This role involves weekends and holiday coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
• Three years of experience in patient access/registration or related roles.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred; strong customer service and communication skills.
• Proficient with computers and patient registration, scheduling, and EMR systems.
• Must be able to work rotating weekends, days, holidays as needed; complete typing test.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, clinicians, payers, and staff.
• Perform patient registration and verify demographic, financial, and insurance information.
• Contact insurance carriers to determine coverage and eligibility; verify information in systems.
• Schedule appointments using Soarian Scheduling and other systems.
• Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and hospital policies; ensure accurate documentation.
