Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC is hiring a Patient Access Associate I to provide exceptional service and ensure a positive patient experience across registration, scheduling, and documentation processes.

You will verify demographics, insurance, and financial information, coordinate with insurers, and support clinicians and staff with bed placement and scheduling, using Siemens EDM and Soarian Scheduling in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.

Responsibilities

• Provides exceptional customer service to patients, families, clinicians, third-party payers, hospital employees, and coworkers.
• Registers patients and verifies demographic, financial, and insurance data for hospital and ancillary services.
• Contacts insurance carriers or uses verification systems to determine coverage and eligibility.
• Reviews and verifies insurance information through eligibility systems, including HDX Eligibility.
• Follows government regulations related to MSP, MSPQ, and ABN.
• Obtains and verifies required patient, insurance, financial, and referral information.
• Contacts patients, guarantors, family members, attorneys, or others to obtain missing or inaccurate information.
• Uses Siemens EDM to electronically capture, scan, and maintain documents supporting the patient’s EMR.
• Verifies patient information across registration pathways and systems.
• Scans or copies IDs, driver’s licenses, insurance cards, referrals, and other documents.
• Obtains signatures on hospital and regulatory forms.
• Uses Soarian Scheduling to schedule appointments for clinics and departments.
• Supports Nursing Staffing Office, physicians, and hospital admins with bed placement.
