Job summary

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center is seeking a Patient Access Representative to welcome patients and coordinate admissions, registrations, and financial clearances in a fast-paced hospital setting.

You will input demographic and insurance data, verify documents, coordinate bed assignments, and ensure accurate census reporting while providing friendly, professional service to every patient and family member.

Qualifications

• One to three years Customer Service Experience.
• Prior Registration Knowledge required.
• Typing: 50+ WPM.
• Must pass alphanumeric skills test.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Prior Medical Terminology is required.
• Good interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Accepts reservations for hospital admission, clinic visits, SDS, ED and behavioral health services.
• Inputs information in Paragon and completes appropriate forms.
• Receives and records accurate demographic, financial and insurance information for all patients registered.
• Verifies all information and updates the patient’s information in the computer as necessary.
• Verifies the accuracy of demographics and insurance information at admission; scans items such as ID/Insurance Cards/Consents into ILE.
• Contacts insurance companies on behalf of the ED clinical staff for patient admissions to behavioral health units.
• Refer self-pay patients to ARMDS for Medicaid or Charity Care eligibility.
• Obtain financial clearance for ambulatory/outpatient psychiatric services; issue clearance slips for Self Pay with payment plans.
• Admits, discharges and transfers patients between units (ER, Skilled Nursing Facility, Psychiatric Services, SDS).
• Coordinate with nursing on bed assignments based on sex, diagnosis, acuity and age.
• Maintain bed census and perform Census Reconciliation.
• Route admission forms to appropriate departments.
• Ensure discharge orders have disposition and service/plan codes.
• Collect deposits to meet deductibles and co-insurance.
• Provide professional, respectful customer service per policy.
• Maintains policies, safety, infection control standards and suggests improvements.
• Adhere to Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
• Familiar with Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
• Notifies supervisor of admissions not meeting financial policy.
• Maintain logs (Census, Outpatient Ambulatory).
• Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
• Cross Training within Patient Access (except Central Scheduling).
• Answer calls with proper Telephone Etiquette.
• Performs other duties to support department objectives.
