Firelands Health in Sandusky, OH is seeking a Patient Accounts Specialist to welcome patients, verify insurance, collect co-pays, and maintain daily billing records across multiple practice sites.

The role requires prior ambulatory medical office experience, CPR certification, and strong PC skills (Outlook, Excel, Word). You’ll support billing, authorizations, referrals, and AR processes, while maintaining HIPAA compliance and patient service excellence.

Qualifications

• High school graduate; vocational education preferred.
• Experience in medical ambulatory setting.
• Current CPR certification or obtained within 3 months of employment and maintained.
• Proficient in the use of personal computers with strong typing skills. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word is desired.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients, vendors, and visitors and notifies appropriate staff of arrival.
• Operates telephone console to route calls and place outgoing calls.
• Schedules patient appointments and verifies insurance information.
• Obtains current insurance coverage and prior authorizations as needed.
• Maintains daily records for timely billing and notifies patients of account status.
• Assists in accounts receivable management and data entry for the Central Billing Office.
• Uses collection reports to keep accounts receivable current.
• Maintains patient records and supports privacy and HIPAA guidelines.
• Answers phones professionally and directs callers according to clinic guidelines.
• Maintains waiting area and administrative supplies.
• Demonstrates competence in communication, professionalism, and organizational skills.
