Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Patient Services Specialist I to enhance the patient experience by coordinating clerical and medical activities, handling registrations, and guiding patients to UTMB services. The role emphasizes customer service, confidentiality, and teamwork with care providers.

Responsibilities include scheduling, handling payments, providing cost estimates, pre-registering patients, and communicating with patients and staff to resolve access barriers.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Preferred experience in a clinic or medical office front desk setting.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained during employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide high level customer service in all interactions with patients and staff.
• Interact professionally with patients, physicians, referral sources, and the treatment team.
• Answer calls accurately and document triage and telephone encounters.
• Protect patient confidentiality and handle information securely.
• Assist with patient registration, scheduling, and pre-registration activities.
• Explain billing processes and out-of-pocket costs to patients and families.
• Disclose financial responsibilities and assist with insurance details and third-party coverage.
