Job summary

Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC is seeking a part-time Clerical Specialist to join our Patient Access team. This role covers scheduling, pre-certification, benefit verification, and registration activities in a fast-paced environment.

You will gather demographic and financial information, determine patient financial responsibility, and ensure accurate entry in the EPIC system while coordinating with physicians and clinical staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• General knowledge and experience in the healthcare industry is preferred.
• Strong customer service experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology ICD-10 and CPT Coding.
• Ability to build productive internal and external working relationships.
• Basic analytical skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle challenging customers in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and pre-certification, benefit verification and pre-certification processes.
• Respond quickly to customer needs with independent judgment and initiative.
• Coordinate with physicians, nursing, clinical staff and Patient Access for proper scheduling.
• Explain hospital policies and financial responsibilities and obtain signatures.
• Enter demographic and financial data accurately in the EPIC system.
• Determine estimated patient financial responsibility and collect self-pay portions.
• Ensure pre-certification/authorization complies with insurer policies.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
