Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Patient Coordinator I to greet patients in person or by phone and to verify insurance and demographics in the practice management system. You will coordinate with clinical staff to ensure patient records are ready for the physician and handle HIPAA forms as needed.

The role involves pre-visit insurance verification, waiting-room updates, and assisting with basic billing tasks and referrals.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED.
• 1 year physician practice experience.
• Prefer experience in a medical office setting with a computer system for scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients either in person or via telephone, and update their insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
• Assure that physician accepts insurance that patients present with; verify insurance prior to visit or at arrival.
• Communicate with appropriate staff regarding patients arrival and ensure that patient medical records are available for physician.
• Process/update HIPAA-related paperwork and other institutional forms as necessary.
• Collect or retrieve referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
• Review status of waiting room and keep patients informed of wait times.
• Ensure patient has paid co-pay or collect co-pay under direction of billing staff and provide receipt.
• May schedule patient for follow-up appointment and provide guidance for requesting medical records.
• May perform simple charge entry tasks or enter payments collected from patients and prepare Cashier’s deposit.
• Performs in a call center capacity (Faculty Practice Associates) and answers phones for scheduling.
• Follow HIPAA and other government/state requirements for PHI handling.
• May initiate reminder phone calls for next day appointments.
• Performs other related duties.
