Job summary

Mille Lacs Health System seeks a Patient Access Specialist I to deliver excellent customer service, perform accurate patient registration and admission, and coordinate scheduling across ambulatory, acute, and specialty care. The role requires careful verification of patient data, real-time scheduling adjustments, and effective communication with patients, physicians, and staff.

The position supports a multi-department environment, utilizes HMS/MedHost systems, and contributes to smooth patient

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must have at least 2 years of post-secondary training in a healthcare-related field or equivalent experience.
• Must have at least 1 year of experience in working with the general public, preferably in a health care setting.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team setting.
• Possession of attention to detail, organization, and prioritization skills.
• Computer skills including Word, Internet, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Health care industry experience preferred.
• Health insurance knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Schedules patient's appointments to the most appropriate provider, place, and time.
• Accurately completes the appointment process in accordance with MLHS policies and guidelines.
• Verifies patient information for accuracy (demographics, insurance, etc.).
• Provides monthly reporting as requested from scheduling reports.
• Monitors and adjusts provider/specialist schedules as needed.
• Greet and assist patients and visitors when they present at the clinic.
• Registers patients at time of visit.
• Operates switchboard to relay calls and pages.
• Acts as the information source for all service areas.
• Provides reminder calls to patients scheduled the day before their appointment.
• Accepts billing payments or directs questions to the financial representative.
• Prints and sends face sheets with patient demographics and insurance information.
