Job summary

Adventist HealthCare is seeking a Patient Service Specialist for our AMG Scheduling Call Center in Gaithersburg, MD. You will greet patients, schedule appointments, verify demographics and insurance, and handle pre-registrations while counseling on balances and costs.

The role requires strong customer service, familiarity with scheduling systems, and 30 wpm typing. Typical hours are 8:00 am–4:30 pm, Monday–Friday, with full-time benefits and opportunities within a faith-based organization.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or 2 years college preferred.
• Three years customer service experience required.
• Customer service in patient care environment preferred.
• Experience with computerized patient scheduling system required.
• Familiarity with medical insurance terminology.
• Typing speed of 30 words per minute.
• IDX scheduling/registration systems knowledge preferred.
• 2 years office management experience in physician/ambulatory care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and direct patients for appointments, tests, referrals, and information.
• Schedule patient appointments and procedures using scheduling system; prepare notices and referrals.
• Obtain documents and verify patient demographics, financial and insurance information.
• Perform pre-registration activities and determine medical insurance coverage.
• Register patients into scheduling system and maintain appointment history.
• Counsel patients on unpaid balances and anticipated costs of services.
• Collect payments at time of appointment and provide receipts.
• Print forms and reminder cards for encounters and daily operations.
• Coordinate with physicians and nursing staff to facilitate patient encounters.
• Answer inquiries regarding services and regulations in assigned clinical areas.
• Print and review scheduling reports and balance daily cash receipts.
