Iowa Orthopedic Center is seeking a Patient Access Coordinator to be the first voice for patients, handling incoming calls and scheduling appointments for physician clinics. This role is hybrid, requiring on-site training with subsequent flexible work arrangements.

Based in Des Moines, the position expects strong customer service, clear communication, and the ability to multi-task across systems while supporting clinic operations and patient access workflows.

Qualifications

• Customer service skills and ability to handle large call volumes.
• Experience in a call center environment is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare or healthcare-related field is preferred.
• Basic understanding of health insurance.
• Excellent communication and ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Ability to multi-task across multiple systems and screens.
• Empathetic listener who enjoys helping others.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls and make outbound calls using the Polycom phone system.
• Answer general questions, schedule and screen appointments, and route calls to the correct extension.
• Schedule and reschedule appointments per physician/department requirements.
• Take detailed messages via email when voicemail is not an option.
• Document communications and update records accurately.
• Recognize potential credit issues and direct to the appropriate personnel.
• Coordinate with triage nurse to ensure proper routing within scope of practice.
