Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a patient services clerk to support clinic operations. You will check in patients, answer calls, verify demographics and insurance, and enter data into the system to keep records accurate and patients moving smoothly.

You will also check patients out, perform follow-up, and assist with revenue-related tasks while delivering outstanding customer service to patients and staff across a large health system.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of customer service experience required.
• Business Office education or similar coursework desired.
• Must attend all required course work assigned by management.
• Possess basic knowledge of medical terminology and advanced knowledge of PC applications, software and database management.
• Be able to perform math and bookkeeping skills.
• Possess exceptional telephone and customer service skills.
• Be knowledgeable of English grammar and punctuation.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Check in scheduled and add-on patients; route calls and enter demographic, insurance and charge data.
• Check patients out of the clinic and perform follow-up as necessary.
• Assist with collecting, depositing and recording clinic revenue when needed.
• Provide assistance to patient needs within the waiting room.
• Demonstrate outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, physicians and staff.
