Job summary

Mount Carmel Health System is seeking a Patient Financial Specialist I to ensure accurate registration and complete forms for patients. You will collect deductibles, co-pays, coinsurance, and deposits, and determine financial eligibility for assistance.

You will work with CPT/ICD-9 coding and comply with third party regulations to support billing and collections. This role requires knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid and strong communication with patients and departmental staff.

Qualifications

  • Two or four year program: associates degree preferred in health care admin or related field.
  • High school diploma or GED required; relevant experience can substitute for degree.

Job description

Employment Type: Full time. Shift: 6:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and every other Friday and Sunday.

Position Purpose: Patient Financial Specialist I; Ensures the collection of accurate and complete registration/admission information and completion of required forms for all patients. Ensures collections of patient deductibles, co-pays, coinsurance and deposits. Gathers and evaluates confidential patient financial data for purposes of determining patient qualification for financial assistance and/or patient financial responsibility. Collects payments and facilitates resolution of billing questions. Acts as an information resource to other departments and physician offices. Understands relation between diagnosis and procedure using CPT and ICD-9 coding to ensure compliance with third party regulations. Understands Medicare, Medicaid and other third party information requirements and adheres to all third party regulations. Abides by all pertinent legislation regarding use/disclosure of medical and financial information, debt collection and credit reporting. Establishes payment arrangements for patients and evaluates past account history. Abides by the department Service vision.

Location: 500 S Cleveland Ave, Westerville, OH 43081. Hours: 6:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and every other Friday and Sunday.

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of third-party payor benefits and requirements, and regulations impacting registration procedures.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of CPT and ICD 9 coding and payor reimbursement methodologies.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Prefer an Associate's Degree in HealthCare Administration, Business Administration or related field. High School Diploma or GED is required. Demonstrated experience may be used in lieu of degree.
  • Experience: Prefer minimum of three years experience in a physician's office, clinic, hospital business office, financial service setting, or related area dealing with the public in collection of data and funds.
