Job summary

Rockbridge Area Health Center is seeking a Patient Access Representative to manage the front desk, verify demographics and insurance in the EHR, and collect co-pays with accuracy and confidentiality.

In this Monday–Friday, 5-day schedule, you will collaborate with clinical and billing teams to ensure smooth patient flow, HIPAA compliance, and high-quality patient service while supporting the mobile program as needed.

• Experience verifying patient demographics and insurance in an EHR.
• Strong attention to accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality.
• Ability to collect co-pays and explain billing basics to patients.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and visitors in person and by phone.
• Verify and update patient demographics and insurance in the EHR.
• Schedule appointments to optimize provider time and room usage.
• Collect co-payments and document payments in the EHR.
• Serve as first point of contact for patient inquiries.
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant privacy and security of records.
• Collaborate with clinical, billing, and other staff to support patient flow.
• Participate in recall outreach and scheduling optimization projects.

Job description

The Patient Access Representative performs the duties and functions of the Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) front office area and ensures that they are carried out with accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality. They will be an active participant in the mobile program and assist in the administration and maintenance of an efficiently operated clinic.

• Welcome patients and visitors in a courteous and timely manner, both in person and over the phone.
• Accurately verify and update patient demographics, insurance, and registration information in the EHR.
• Schedule appointments to optimize patient satisfaction, provider time, and most effective use of examining and treatment rooms.
• Collect and verify insurance information and document eligibility for services.
• Inform patients about co-payments, sliding fee discounts, and financial obligations.
• Collect co-payments, fees, and account balances accurately, and document payments in the EHR.
• Serve as the first point of contact to address patient inquiries and direct them to appropriate departments or staff.
• Ensure Accurate and confidential input of patient information into the EHR.
• Maintain the privacy and security of patient records in compliance with HIPAA and FQHC policies.
• Collaborate with clinical staff, billing, and other departments to support smooth patient flow and accurate documentation.
• Communicate scheduling issues, urgent needs, and patient concerns to appropriate team members.
• Participate in patient access and quality improvement projects, such as recall outreach, scheduling optimization, and patient satisfaction efforts.

Compensation is $18-$19/hr.
