Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Patient Access Associate to guide patients through registration and insurance verification, explaining financial responsibilities with clarity and compassion from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

  • Ability to explain financial responsibilities clearly and with compassion.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately collect and record demographic, insurance, and financial data in the computer system.
  • Ensure information is complete, up-to-date, and properly sourced.
  • Complete eligibility checks and obtain benefits through electronic means or via phone with insurers or agencies.
  • Contact patients, families, or physicians to obtain missing demographic/insurance information and update records.
  • Interpret physicians’ orders to determine service needs and verify orders on file.
  • Obtain MSPQ and other payer-specific documents.
  • Review and explain registration forms prior to signatures from patients or representatives.
  • Explain benefits and request copays, deductibles, and coinsurance after applying payer-based estimates.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately and thoroughly collects, analyzes and records demographic, insurance/financial and clinical data in computer system. Ensures information source is appropriate.
  • Updates and edits information in computer, ensuring that all fields are populated correctly and appropriately.
  • Completes eligibility check and obtain benefits though electronic means or via phone contact with insurance carriers or other agencies.
  • Contacts patients/families/physicians to obtain additional demographic/insurance information and update in computer system if needed in order to proceed with verification process.
  • Interpret physicians’ hand-carried orders to determine service needs and scans physician orders or verifies that complete and valid orders are on file for each patient.
  • Obtains information and completes MSPQ and other payer-specific documents.
  • Reviews and explains all registration forms prior to obtaining signatures from patient or appropriate patient representative.
  • Explain benefits and request copay, deductible and coinsurance as applicable after developing an estimate applying allowable (based on payer).
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
  • Two (2) years of customer service OR healthcare related experience preferred.
