Job summary

Trinity Health's St. Mary Medical Center seeks a Patient Access Representative to handle outpatient, ER and inpatient registration, plus upfront cash collections and insurance verification.

You will ensure patients meet financial requirements and provide clear information to patients and families. Key duties include verifying benefits, pre-certification and authorizations, gathering signatures for hospital forms, collecting financial responsibility, and maintaining strong customer service to

• Requires an associate degree (preferred).
• Minimum one year experience in insurance verification and medical office/hospital customer service.
• Must have outpatient registration experience.
• HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance benefits and check pre-certification, authorization and referral needs.
• Secure patient signatures and collect financial responsibility when required.
• Provide professional, high-quality customer service and coordinate services across departments.
• Communicate revenue cycle issues to patients, physicians, and hospital staff.
• Rotate through Patient Access areas and may work varied shifts including ER.

Job Title: Patient Access Representative

Employment Type: Full-Time

Shift: Days, 9am-5:30pm with a every 6th week, Saturday rotation.

Location: St. Mary Medical Center

Summary: The patient access representative performs all outpatient, emergency room and inpatient registration functions, including up- front cash collections and insurance verification. Ensures that patients meet financial requirements, provides general information to hospital users, patients and families. Communicates effectively to service delivery areas to maximize patient flow and customer service and provides excellent patient focused customer service.

• Verifies insurance benefits and checks for the necessity of pre-certification, authorization and referral.
• Performs medical necessity checks where needed.
• Secures patient signatures for required hospital forms and collection of patient’s financial responsibility when required.
• Is responsible for providing professional, quality customer service, timely resolution to customer problems, and coordination of services to all customers.
• Functions to communicate revenue cycle related issues to patients, physicians, physician office staff and other hospital colleagues.
• Rotates into various areas of Patient Access and may work a variety of shifts including the ER.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate degree (Preferred)
• Minimum one (1) year experience ininsurance verificationand medical office/hospital customer service
• Must have Outpatient Registration experience
• HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA required within one (1) year of hire.
