Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is seeking a Patient Access Representative at St. Mary Medical Center to handle outpatient, ER and inpatient registration, upfront cash collections and insurance verification. The role emphasizes patient-focused service and collaboration with care teams to maximize patient flow.

The position requires at least 1 year in insurance verification and outpatient registration, with an Associate degree preferred. HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA certification within a year is expected.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred.
• Minimum one year of experience in insurance verification and medical office/hospital customer service.
• Must have outpatient registration experience.
• HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA required within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Verifies insurance benefits and checks for the necessity of pre-certification, authorization and referral.
• Performs medical necessity checks where needed.
• Secures patient signatures for required hospital forms and collection of patient’s financial responsibility.
• Provides professional, quality customer service and timely resolution to customer problems.
• Communicates revenue cycle related issues to patients, physicians and hospital staff.
• Rotates into various areas of Patient Access and may work a variety of shifts including the ER.

Description

Job Title: Patient Access Representative

Employment Type: Full-Time

Shift: Days, 8:30am-5pm with a every 6th week, Saturday rotation.

Location: St. Mary Medical Center

Summary

The patient access representative performs all outpatient, emergency room and inpatient registration functions, including up- front cash collections and insurance verification. Ensures that patients meet financial requirements, provides general information to hospital users, patients and families. Communicates effectively to service delivery areas to maximize patient flow and customer service and provides excellent patient focused customer service.

• Verifies insurance benefits and checks for the necessity of pre-certification, authorization and referral.
• Performs medical necessity checks where needed.
• Secures patient signatures for required hospital forms and collection of patient’s financial responsibility when required.
• Is responsible for providing professional, quality customer service, timely resolution to customer problems, and coordination of services to all customers.
• Functions to communicate revenue cycle related issues to patients, physicians, physician office staff and other hospital colleagues.
• Rotates into various areas of Patient Access and may work a variety of shifts including the ER.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree (Preferred)
