Job summary

Sheridan Community Hospital is seeking a dedicated Patient Access Specialist to be the welcoming first contact for patients, answering calls and processing registrations in the Registration department.

Responsibilities include verifying insurance, collecting payments, and guiding patients through the facility, while upholding HIPAA and customer-service standards across shifts, including holidays and weekends.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Clinical background preferred 1 year or more.
• Customer Service experience preferred 1 year or more.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology; good communication skills.
• Ability to learn and become a super user of an EHR system.
• Must be flexible, dependable and have excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, Skype, Adobe).
• Typing skill with a minimum of 90% accuracy and at least 50 words per minute.

Responsibilities

• Answering multi-line phones and directing calls appropriately.
• Assist in submitting authorization for insurance payers.
• Register patients into the EHR for services in multiple departments.
• Provide courteous, professional service adhering to HIPAA standards.
• Complete registration tasks accurately and distribute forms to patients and staff.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits; collect payments.
• Greet and guide patients/visitors to destinations within the facility.
• Participate in quality improvement projects and training sessions.
