Job summary

McLaren Greater Lansing is seeking a patient registration and insurance verification clerk to accurately enter registration data and verify insurance in compliance with HIPAA.

You will communicate with care teams to plan admissions, obtain necessary signatures, collect co-pays and ensure records are complete and accessible for billing and patient care, working full-time on site in Lansing, MI. Schedule: Full-time; Daily work times 6:30a-3p; 72 hours per pay period; On Call: No; Weekends: No.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least six months of patient registration or billing experience in acute care or physician offices; or two years of clerical experience with data entry, customer service, and recordkeeping; or an Associate's Degree in Medical Insurance Billing and Coding.
• Experience or coursework in medical terminology.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Windows applications.

Responsibilities

• Receives complete bed requests and communicates with Administrative Nursing Supervisor to plan, prioritize and coordinate admission and transfer of patients.
• Contacts physicians, physician offices, other healthcare agencies and departments to obtain orders that meet medical necessity and/or are complete; completes ABN forms.
• Collects, verifies and records patient demographic and insurance data prior to service; obtains signatures on registration and insurance forms.
• Prepares and audits patient records to ensure registration data is complete and accurate.
• May collect patient co-pays, deductibles and deposits; directs self-pay patients to Pre-Admission Review staff or Financial Counselor.
