Job summary

Community Health Systems, Inc. is seeking a Registrar to efficiently capture demographic and insurance data, schedule procedures, and secure necessary authorizations while delivering exceptional customer service.

You will verify insurance eligibility, pre-register patients, collect co-pays, and maintain accurate, confidential records in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and good communication with patients and clinical staff are essential.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred.
• 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting including patient registration, medical office scheduling, or front desk/admissions required.
• 0-2 years of experience in a customer service role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with patients and families to address questions and provide courteous, timely assistance.
• Regulates schedules based on procedure requirements, physician availability, and staffing needs.
• Schedules patient procedures as required and pre-registers scheduled patients by obtaining accurate demographic information.
• Verifies insurance eligibility using designated applications, captures correct health insurance details, and secures necessary authorizations and verifications for services.
• Collects and records patient financial responsibility estimates as applicable.
• Communicates operative reports daily to appropriate physician offices.
• Compiles and organizes registration documentation to ensure completion of patient medical records.
• Collects patient co-pays or deductibles when applicable and informs patients of financial obligations.
• Assists patients with understanding insurance requirements and assists with resolving insurance-related questions.
• Carefully documents on forms if the patient is unable to sign the consent authorization forms, or why a family member signs the forms and has nursing sign off if the patient is unable to sign.
• Places an armband on each patient before the patient leaves the department to ensure proper identification of the patient throughout their stay.
• Answers and returns phone calls, addressing questions with professionalism and courtesy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
