Job summary

Lutheran Health Network is seeking a Registrar in Fort Wayne, IN to accurately capture demographic and insurance information, schedule procedures, and pre-register patients. This role focuses on delivering excellent customer service and maintaining complete patient records.

The Registrar will verify insurance, obtain authorizations, collect financial estimates, and assist patients with understanding coverage requirements, ensuring a smooth registration process throughout the patient stay.

Qualifications

• Post secondary education or training in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred
• 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting including patient registration, medical office scheduling, or front desk/admissions required
• 0-2 years of experience in a customer service role preferred

Responsibilities

• Interact with patients and families to address questions and provide courteous, timely assistance
• Regulate schedules based on procedure requirements, physician availability, and staffing needs
• Pre-register scheduled patients by obtaining accurate demographic information
• Verify insurance eligibility using designated applications, capture correct health insurance details, and secure necessary authorizations and verifications
• Collect patient financial responsibility estimates as applicable
• Communicate operative reports daily to appropriate physician offices
• Compile and organize registration documentation to ensure completion of patient medical records
• Collect co-pays or deductibles and inform patients of financial obligations
• Assist patients with understanding insurance requirements
• Document consent forms when patient cannot sign and include nursing sign-off if needed
• Place armband on patient before departure for identification
• Answer and return phone calls professionally
• Perform other duties as assigned and maintain regular attendance
