Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) seeks an Emergency Department Registration Specialist to coordinate patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling in the emergency department at Muhlenberg.

You will interact with diverse patients, gather demographic, insurance, and financial information, and ensure accurate data capture to support prompt financial clearance and care delivery.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year customer service or 1 year healthcare environment experience such as a hospital or physician office.
• Computer and typing proficiency.
• Must interact with a diverse customer base, including those seeking emergency services.
• Must pass the required training within two attempts or less.
• Able to adapt to changing volumes and prioritize tasks.
• Remain calm in a noisy, high-stress environment.
• React quickly in critical situations using critical thinking.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to obtain demographic, insurance (referral/authorization), and other information.
• Engages patients to create a welcoming experience in person or by phone.
• Ensures referring providers' orders match the scheduled appointment.
• Obtains a new order prior to test/treatment if incomplete or inaccurate.
• Scans insurance cards, scripts, patient identification, and regulatory forms accurately.
• Secures signatures to ensure timely reimbursement and appropriate consents.
• Determines and collects patient financial liability and creates estimates.
• Directs patients to financial resources for assistance with counseling.
• Reviews daily schedule for conflicts and coordinates with colleagues and providers.
• Maintains compliance with registration accuracy.
