Job summary

UNC Health Nash is seeking a Patient Access Intake Specialist to ensure accurate registration and timely processing across Emergency, Observation, Inpatient, and Outpatient classes. Responsibilities include patient identification, insurance verification, pre-registration, registration, and financial securing of accounts in line with EMTLA.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's preferred.
• Course work in medical terminology or medical insurance preferred.
• 2 years of healthcare/admissions experience; 2–5 years in revenue cycle/ hospital ops preferred.

Responsibilities

• Verify patient information, insurance, demographics; pre-notifications and authorizations.
• Schedule, pre-register, register patients; ensure financial clearance per EMTLA.
• Use MPI; ensure accurate registration and account posting; reduce errors.
• Process POS collections and payments; reconcile cash and deposits.
• Communicate with patients and families; provide administrative information.
• Audit and QA; maintain regulatory documents; comply with policies.

Education
