Job summary

Putnam Hospital Center is seeking a Per Diem Registration Clerk to facilitate smooth patient flow from scheduling to check-in and to verify demographics and financial information for accurate patient identification.

This role requires patient courtesy, confidentiality, and the ability to obtain and communicate payment sources. Working hours include weekends, evenings, overnights and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
• Basic MS Word and MS Excel; strong customer service skills.
• NAHAM certification within one year is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare access or registration is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Greeting patients and/or physicians, staff, and visitors promptly and professionally.
• Check-in patients into the system and direct based on appointment location and counseling status.
• Assist patients with special needs and maintain confidentiality.
• Respond to phone calls per customer service standards and provide information to callers.
• Support scheduling to reduce abandoned call rate and improve efficiency.
• Search and select patient records using EMPI to ensure accurate identification.
• Schedule appointments for services following protocols.
• Enter accurate demographic and financial information to secure payment.
• Verify insurance eligibility and obtain payor information as needed.
• Provide service estimates and actively solicit patient liability.
• Enter testing orders in the appropriate system; understand coding and charge masters.
• Obtain signatures for required consents and notifications.
• Maintain compliance with department policies, HIPAA, EMTALA, and Patient Bill of Rights.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
