MedStar Health is seeking a Registration Specialist to support inpatient and outpatient activities, ensuring accurate patient demographics, insurance verification, and authorization needs to streamline the revenue cycle.

The role collaborates with clinical departments, insurers, and care teams to minimize denials, input correct data, and facilitate timely payment while upholding compliance and customer service standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Experience in a customer service environment; hospital/physician registration, insurance verification, or medical billing preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills; familiarity with medical terminology and payer procedures.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to department goals and adhere to policies, procedures, and quality standards.
• Handle patient calls to complete insurance information and authorizations.
• Track and maintain referral and preauthorization records to minimize delays.
• Provide pre-authorization and insurance verification for outpatient registrations using clinical systems.
• Ensure proper authorization and/or referral numbers are obtained before services are rendered.
• Coordinate benefit information and inform patients about coverage, co-pays, and potential financial assistance.
