Qualifications

• 2 years experience in a business service setting.
• Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
• Knowledge of insurances, billing and collections guidelines/criteria.
• Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal regulations governing registration/billing activities including Joint Commission, Title XXII, Medicare and Medi-Cal regulations.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and/or RVS coding.
• Knowledge of Medicare Important Message, Medicare Secondary Payor, Tricare Third Party Liability; Auto Accident and Work Comp, Medicare/Outpatient Observation Notice.
• Must join the union within 31 days of hire and remain a member for the duration of the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate registration functions to ensure clean claims, maximum financial reimbursement, and premier customer service.
• Obtain and process patient demographics, visit information, and financial information.
• Use Patient Secure to accurately identify medical records while adhering to EMTALA regulations.
• Conduct face-to-face interviews with patients and/or designated representatives.
• Identify and deliver regulatory documents and secure patient financial responsibility.
• Request, receive, process, and document patient payments and receipts.
• Complete insurance verification, evaluation, plan selection, eligibility validation, and coordination of benefits.
• Estimate and collect patient out-of-pocket responsibility and communicate coverage issues.
• Screen unfunded or underfunded patients and complete HPE processes when appropriate.
• Provide customer service, service recovery, and support patient satisfaction standards.
• Process patients timely according to quality, time, and productivity standards.
• Handle patient registration, demographic collection, signatures, privacy forms, and regulatory documentation.
• Perform ED unit clerk and Customer Information Center duties when applicable.
• Secure, scan, and document Access Service-related records.
