Job summary

Palomar Health is seeking a Patient Access representative to serve as the first contact for patients and families regarding funding sources for inpatient and outpatient services. You will manage day-to-day funding activities during scheduling, pre-registration, registration, or post-registration, and educate on hospital payment policies.

Responsibilities include screening admissions, documenting funding info, coordinating with revenue cycle, and obtaining upfront collections.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: High School Diploma and/or combination of education and experience
• Preferred Education: High School Diploma and/or combination of education and experience plus 1 year healthcare-related experience or basic college/medical coursework to learn medical terminology
• Preferred Experience: 2 years Patient Access and/or Patient Financial Services experience assisting patients with insurance and government funded programs
• Preferred Experience: 3+ years Patient Access and Patient Financial Services experience assisting patients with insurance and government funded programs, including experience related to billing and payment of government funded health plans.
• Bilingual (Spanish) Required Certification: Not Applicable Preferred Certification: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (NAHAM) or equivalent Required License: Not Applicable Preferred License: Not Applicable

Responsibilities

• Serves as the first contact for patients and families regarding funding sources for inpatient and outpatient services.
• Responsible for day-to-day activities of obtaining funding for patients in scheduling, pre-registration, registration, or post registration as assigned.
• Screens admissions daily and educates referring physicians offices, patients and families on hospital payment policies.
• Obtains and documents information that designates current funding information and/or provides information on funding sources.
• Works with revenue cycle departments to communicate issues and formulate work plans for resolution.
• Obtains upfront collection on self-pay accounts, co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance as identified.
• Screens patients for other 3rd party and charity eligibility and keeps up-to-date on procedures.
• Utilizes payer resources to explore eligibility and initiate referrals for MediCal/CMS/CCS.
• Administers Palomar Health Financial Assistance Policy to determine eligibility for discounted prices or charity care.
