Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a Patient Access Coordinator to assist patients and caregivers in overcoming healthcare access barriers and to coordinate calls between patients and the care team. This role emphasizes accurate scheduling and effective communication within a busy hospital environment.

Under indirect supervision, you will coordinate complex follow-up appointments, manage referrals and authorizations, and ensure confidentiality and patient-centered service

Qualifications

• High school diploma and three years related healthcare experience or an Associate's degree and two years related healthcare experience or a Bachelor's degree and one year healthcare related experience.
• Epic, Medical Office experience, call center experience, medical terminology and knowledge of insurance preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Must have expertise in MS Outlook and must understand meeting and calendar functions.
• Organizational, time management, problem solving skills required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients and caregivers to navigate the healthcare system and act as a liaison between patients and the hospital care team.
• Schedule multidisciplinary and ancillary clinics across the enterprise, including series scheduling and resource alignment.
• Manage referral authorizations and stay informed about financial and drug assistance resources.
• Maintain accuracy and confidentiality while handling multiple assignments under deadline pressure.
