• Typing speed of 60 words per minute accurately.
• Basic computer skills in Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding and ICD9 coding.
• Well organized and able to function under stress.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and determines their needs; offers assistance.
• Registers patients and prepares records, reports, notices and payor information.
• Interviews patients or guardians to determine payment arrangements.
• Assists self-pay patients with balance arrangements beyond deposits.
• Answers inquiries about patient accounts and insurance benefits.
• Receives payments, issues receipts, and maintains accounts receivable records.
• Post charges and payments daily to patient accounts.
• Bill patients according to established policies.
• Maintain registers for Medicare, Medicaid and others as required.
• Contact insurance carriers for precertification of procedures.
• May transport patients in wheelchairs.
• Operate office equipment (copiers, fax, etc.).
• Maintain income register and adjust accounts as needed.
• Operate communication systems and handle calls and records.
• May serve as clinic receptionist and provide nontechnical information.
• Provide information about patient condition/status under guidelines.
• May schedule appointments for Clinic Physicians.
• Obtain signatures for release of information per clinic policies.
• Assist physicians and nursing staff as needed.
• Collect information for billing and insurance forms.
• Types memos, correspondence, and billing forms.
• Maintain patient charts and records efficiently.
• Compile periodic and statistical reports as directed.
