Qualifications

• Must have or be working toward a high school diploma or equivalent with special emphasis on office skills.
• Vocational training or on-the-job computer and switchboard experience; medical terminology and healthcare business office experience would be helpful.

Responsibilities

• Processes pre-registration for all patient types without creating duplicate medical record numbers or duplicate patient account numbers, including gathering demographic and insurance information and entering data into the computer.
• Processes all patient registrations without duplicates, scans insurance cards, enters/verifies data, and assembles packets for specific patient types.
• Obtains room assignment by contacting nursing unit/bed control and secures necessary signatures; directs/transport patients to appropriate department.
• Edits/prepares registrations accurately before passing on to billing; processes transfers and discharges; completes follow-up on signatures and Medicare/Medicaid forms.
