Job summary

Portland Community College (PCC) seeks two Pathway Advisors – Academic Advising Specialist to provide asset‑based advising and retention support for a diverse student population. You will help students meet educational goals, engage with career development, and apply advising theories in practice.

In this role you will leverage technology to outreach proactively, manage caseloads, and work with staff and community resources to support student success across PCC campuses in Oregon and Washington.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Two years of professional experience in an educational setting providing academic advising, career counseling, student retention/coaching, or related student services.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate an understanding and practical application of student development, career development and student learning theories.
• Exhibit an understanding of the purpose of higher education, particularly within the context of a community college, to better serve our diverse student population.
• Possess a strong awareness of equity issues, as well as opportunity and achievement gaps at community colleges, and actively work to address these challenges.
• Demonstrate experience providing support and resources to students that enables them to meet and exceed their educational and career goals.
• Understand and engage with cultural differences, demonstrating relational skills that allow effective advising across diverse student backgrounds.
• Leverage current technologies to conduct proactive outreach, manage caseloads efficiently, and foster clear, consistent communication with students.
• Experience working collaboratively with educational staff and community resources to coordinate student support and engagement utilizing a student‑centered approach.
