OverviewThe primary responsibility for thePathology Office Assistant is to complete requisition data entry and provide clerical assistance to pathologist(s). Transcription is an essential job duty; however, it is limited only to pathology.

Schedule (CST):
Monday–Friday: 1:30 PM – 7:00 PM

ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions
- At the direction of the pathologist, create orders for lab stains or re-cuts, internal consensus, or outside consult in Orchard and contact lab immediately.
- For internal consensus or outside consults, coordinate sending of slides and communication with other departments/clinics as appropriate using standard procedures and forms.
- With information from the requisition, create pathology notes and bills in Orchard for pathologist(s) review and signature.
- After case finalization, file slides and requisitions in accession order.
- Transcribe pathology diagnoses as needed into Orchard.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
- High School Diploma, GED/HSED or equivalent is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of general medical terminology is preferred.
- Ability to type a minimum of 45 wpm with minimal errors is preferred.
- Must possess attention to detail.
- Must possess excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills.
- Must display a friendly, cheerful, tactful and polite demeanor and must be compassionate and caring in dealing with others.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to use time productively and contribute to high levels of company operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ability to understand physician’s instructions/handwriting and know when to seek additional information or clarification.
- Ability to respond positively to constructive criticism and direction from supervisors.
- Must demonstrate professional appearance and manner at all times.
- Must remain compliant with HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA requirements.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
For this position, the base pay range is $15.00 - $21.30 per hour. Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education, certification, or training.
