Job summary

Atlantic Health System is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to perform gross examination of surgical specimens and autopsies, prepare tissue for histology, and assist with diagnostic studies under a CLIA supervisor. You will describe gross features, draft reports, and maintain meticulous records while operating laboratory instruments and ensuring safety compliance.

Responsibilities include QA, proficiency testing, inventory management, and training of staff.

Qualifications

• Meets CLIA personnel requirements for High Complexity testing (MD/DO with license or doctoral/master’s/bachelor’s/associate in related field).
• Clinical training from NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination of surgical specimens and autopsies; prepare tissue for histology and embedding; ensure proper labeling and handling.
• Describe gross features and assist in drafting pathology reports for pathologist review; photograph specimens as needed.
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment per SOPs; document calibrations and maintenance.
• Follow quality control policies; maintain records of instrument performance and procedural calibrations.
• Participate in proficiency testing and ensure samples are treated as patient specimens.
• Manage inventory by rotating stock and monitoring expiration dates.
• Assist in training team members and students.
• Adhere to Atlantic Health safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
