Job summary

Yale University is seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant to support anatomic pathology services at Yale New Haven Hospital. You will examine, dissection, photograph, and preserve specimens while coordinating with pathologists and residents.

The role requires strong communication, organization, and the ability to move between sites as needed. Under supervision you will assist frozen sections, manage case histories, and prepare reports for the department.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Health Science in Pathology is required.
• ASCP Board Certification or eligibility within 90 days after hire.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs gross description and dissection of tissue removed at surgery; photographs specimens and slides; procures materials for residents and students.
• Assists with frozen section examinations including preparation and staining and summarizes patient history.
• Assists pathologist by confirming proper authorization and reviewing charts; coordinates special procedures with attending pathologist.
• Coordinates autopsy services including supervision of lab personnel and maintains an orderly work area.
• Prepares and presents at weekly clinical conferences and teaches students as required.
• Interacts with surgical staff to ensure timely delivery of samples from the operating room to pathology.
• Assists in tissue collection from the Autopsy Unit and maintains tissue databases.
• Prepares monthly reports to the Department Chief or Manager; performs other duties as needed.
• Adheres to all applicable health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
