Job summary

Amtrak is hiring a Passenger Conductor Trainee in Sacramento, CA. This fast-paced, hands-on role supports safe train operations, assists passengers, and works with a close crew to deliver a professional passenger experience.

Trainees may be assigned to on-corridor NEC routes or off-corridor facilities. The position is unionized and requires on-call shifts, nights, weekends, and extended travel, with training in Wilmington, Delaware.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two years of full-time work experience and/or college coursework.
• Must live within a 2-hour commute of the Crew Base.
• Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs and meet FRA vision standards.

Responsibilities

• Support safe and efficient train operations by assisting the Conductor with train movements and safety compliance.
• Promote a safe environment for passengers and crew; assist with boarding and detraining.
• Perform yard operations and assist with coupling/decoupling and equipment handling.
• Organize checked baggage and manage service plans across operations.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and address service disruptions.
